Mommy, what’s that feeling?

A story that helps children understand grief in a way that feels safe, honest, and real.

This is not just a book you read. It is a conversation you finally know how to start.

A MOMENT YOU CANNOT IGNORE

Your child says something feels wrong.

Not in a dramatic way. Not in a way that is easy to explain.

Just… different.

They are quieter than usual.

Things they usually enjoy no longer excite them.

When you ask what is going on, they cannot find the words.

And you are left trying to understand something they do not yet understand themselves.

THIS IS WHERE THE STORY BEGINS

Inside this book, you meet a child who wakes up feeling exactly like that.

Nothing obvious has happened. Everything looks normal from the outside.

Yet something feels off.

What follows is a conversation between a mother and her child that gently unfolds what that feeling could be.

There is no pressure to “fix” anything. There is no rush to label it too quickly.

Instead, the story walks alongside the child as they begin to recognize what is happening within them.

WHAT THIS BOOK DOES DIFFERENTLY

Many books tell children what to feel, this one helps them notice.

It creates awareness instead of forcing conclusions.

It invites curiosity instead of shutting things down.

It builds understanding without overwhelming them.

Because not every emotion arrives with clarity.

Some feelings need to be explored before they can be understood.

WHAT THIS HELPS YOU DO

For children, this becomes language.

They start recognizing emotions instead of pushing them away or feeling confused by them.

For parents and caregivers, this becomes a guide.

You gain a way to respond that feels supportive without needing to have perfect answers.

Instead of trying to fix the moment, you can stay present in it.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Children experience emotional shifts long before they can explain them.

Without the right support, those feelings often stay unspoken.

Sometimes they become silence.

Sometimes they turn into frustration.

Sometimes they simply get ignored.

This book opens that space.

It helps bring what is internal into a place where it can be understood and expressed safely.

THIS IS NOT JUST A BOOK

This is a tool for real life.

For everyday moments that feel small on the surface but carry something deeper underneath.

For the quiet mornings.

For the questions that come out of nowhere.

For the feelings that do not have a clear reason.

WHY PRE-ORDERING MATTERS

This book is being released through a community-first approach.

The first print run begins once we reach 100 pre-orders.

Every order directly contributes to bringing this story into the hands of children and families who need it.

You are not just buying a book. You are helping make it possible.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • Parents who want to support their children emotionally without guessing their way through it.
  • Therapists who need gentle, effective tools to introduce complex emotions.
  • Educators who understand that emotional awareness starts early.
  • Anyone raising or working with children who deserve to feel seen and understood.
  • And of course, children who are experiencing this complex emotion and don’t have a name for it.

WHAT YOU ARE REALLY GIVING A CHILD

  • You are giving them words for something they could not explain.
  • You are helping them understand that their feelings are valid.
  • You are showing them that they do not have to navigate those emotions alone.

Faith Facts

This part is for the people who believe that not everything happens by accident.

Some things are placed.

Some things are guided.

Some things take years to come together.

This story began long before the book was ever written.

Herdyne and Belina did not meet through work. There was no introduction email, no search for an illustrator, no formal beginning.

They grew up connected.

Belina’s mother, Mrs. Buisson, was not just someone they knew. She was part of Herdyne’s early life in a meaningful way. She taught, guided, and supported her during a time when learning did not always come easily. She helped build the foundation that would later shape how Herdyne understands people, emotions, and care.

Their families crossed paths in moments that mattered. In classrooms, in church, in everyday life that quietly leaves a mark.

Years passed.

Life moved forward.

Paths changed.

And like many connections from childhood, it could have simply remained a memory.

But it did not.

At a completely different point in life, something unexpected happened.

During a drive from Florida to Atlanta, Herdyne began writing.

There was no structured plan. No outline. No intention to sit down and create a book that day.

The story just came…

It unfolded in real time, written into the notes app of a phone as the miles passed by.

And as the story took shape, one question became clear.

Who is meant to bring this to life visually?

Not who is available. Not who is the best fit on paper.

But who is meant to do this?

The answer came immediately.

Belina.

No hesitation. No overthinking. Just certainty.

What makes this even more meaningful is that their connection had never really disappeared.

It had simply been waiting.

Waiting for the right moment.

Waiting for the right purpose.

Waiting for something that required both of them.

This book is not just the result of skill.

It is the result of timing.

It is what happens when two people carry their own gifts through life, separately, until the moment those gifts are needed together.

One brings the understanding of children, emotions, and healing.

The other brings the ability to turn that understanding into something visual, something a child can see, connect with, and hold onto.

For some, this will just be a beautiful collaboration between a writer and an illustrator.

For others, it will feel like something deeper.

A reminder that certain things come together exactly when they are supposed to.

That the right people find their way back into your life when the work calls for it.

That sometimes, what feels like a simple project is actually something much bigger.

And maybe that is what this book carries within it.

Not just a story about grief.

But a story about connection, timing, and purpose.
